V. S. Dental College and Hospital is one of the reputed institutions for dental education in the state of Karnataka since 1986. The college is located in the city of Bengaluru, in the vicinity of the Central Railway and Bus Station with an incredible campus area of 120,000 square feet. The college which was earlier associated with Bengaluru University, the college is now affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka and has ben approved by the Dental Council of India since 1992.

The institution’s mission statement is ‘Institute of World Class Dental Education’. Based on the abovenoted vision, the Institution is ambitious to be ranked among the top dental schools in all over India as far as the standards of oral health education, research, and practice are concerned. The same responsibility is embedded in its expansion over the years, where in its initial phase it had 52 students enrolled, and now is complete to take 100 BDS students in admission terms. The college expansion is also supported by the introduction of MDS courses which were first met in 2001-02, whereby the College is today offering 38 P G seats in different Dental specialties.

V. S. Dental College guarantees students hands-on training on the latest dental technologies. V. S. Dental College is affiliated to Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital, which gives students a lot of clinical exposure, with patients being seen at the institute in the range of 300-500 patients every day. This exposure is important for the students’ practice in future as well as for developing caring attitude towards patients.

Apart from the institution’s philosophy of maintaining high academic standards and commitment to clinical activity, there is also commitment to researching and developing new ideas. There are programs aimed at obtaining a degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) in different departments such as Prosthodontics & Crown and Bridge, Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics, Oral & maxillofacial surgery as well as conservative dentistry & endodontics in V. S. Dental College. Furthermore, the college has been able to introduce certificate courses in Esthetic Dentistry and Implantology.

Apart from emphasis on education in theory and practice, V.S. Dental College actively participates in outreach programs and practices directed towards augmenting the level of oral health awareness amongst people in the community. The outreach programs focused to the rural and urban underprivileged population are regularly executed in line with the vision of the institution to impact change in the community where it operates.
