“Government Medical College Idukki (GMCI) is located in Cheruthoni, Idukki, Kerala, India and it is a well known government medical college. This college was established in 2014 and focuses on delivering quality medical education and healthcare services preferably for the tribal communities, socially disadvantaged people as well as people living in the hilly, remote areas of Kerala.

Affiliation and Approvals

Affiliation: Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), Thrissur teaches the students of GMCI.

Approval: In 2022 GMCI’s MBBS program was approved by US National Medical Commission (NMC).

Infrastructure and Facilities

The infrastructure of Idukki National Medical College includes buildings including hostels, new hospital complex, and academic blocks. The campus area of Government Medical College Idukki extends over 90 acres. The maternal and child health block was previously the district’s hospital and has since been transformed.

MBBS Program

Initial Batches: The college however did manage to get their first academic batches for admissions in 2014 in 2015 and since that year the college turned a bachellorscene.

Recent Developments: The commencement of the first-year MBBS classes for students took place on November 15th, of the year 2022, which was quite recent. The start to it was provided in 2022, where the college been able to admit around 100 students each year, for the ten years straight.”
